Blog 5-Biomimicry and the Savannah

This week we did a reading on one of my favorite topics in sustainability: biomimicry.  The reading we did Thursday that talked about biomimicry in interior design is one I found particularly interesting.  One statement that really stuck out to me was that we need to not only consider the aesthetic aspects of design in nature, but we also need to think about why they look like that.  There is a science behind everything in nature.  The reasoning behind biomimicry could be the key to successful sustainable design.

The other thing about this week that I enjoyed was the part in Tuesday’s reading that talked about design using the savannah.  Each characteristic of this type of landscape can relate back to needs of humans and designing our environment.  Designing with these concepts will help us not just to survive, but to thrive and live in harmony with our environment.
