Not only is designing for human needs sustainable, it is smart for businesses who want their customers to return and be satisfied. One of my favorite uses of this idea is “mi Adidas” which allows users to be creative and have freedom to design their own shoe.
Another example is REI, a popular outdoor brand. They have began encouraging shoppers to spend the day outdoors on Black Friday. Many stores are doing the same thing this year after receiving backlash for being open on Christmas day in the past.
I personally love the “new” design activism model of the wine & painting studio that was shown in the Powerpoint. I remember going to a place like this as a child (minus the alcohol), had a blast, and was able to be social and creative at the same time.
