On Monday we had a visit to OSU sustainable office unfortunately I didn’t make it because I was in India for personal reason. But after reading the journals of my friends I missed a great opportunity to getting know how sustainable OSU is in all possible aspects.

On Wednesday we had a take way assignment that is to watch five TED talks and write down takes away from the talk connecting with sustainability. I guess it’s a great opportunity to learn and know how we can contribute to sustainability from those videos. The one TED talk that stood out for me is how we can grow fresh air. Because we usually buy air purifiers to purify air in a room but using common green plants with zero energy usage we can recycle but also grow fresh air per person. And then, We can recycle plastic :Talks about how less than 10% of the plastics are not recycled and end up in landfills because of the problem of sorting plastics according to what grade it is. So he developed a cheap and extremely less energy efficient plant that can and does, recycle any kind of plastic. He called it a process of above ground mining. Some other talk that also interested me is James Balog: Time-lapse proof of extreme ice loss, Vicki Arroyo: Let’s prepare for our new climate, Frans Lanting: The story of life in photographs.

What I learnt from these talks is it changes the way you look at the stuff in your life. By taking clues from these talks we can adapt new changes of being sustainable and make our life less energy efficient.
