Blog Post 3

The past two lectures have been about industrial ecology and the sustainability principles of life. Both aspects of sustainability have contributed to my personal journey. Industrial ecology was a new term that I never had associated with sustainability. It is incredibly important to draw inspiration and life patterns from nature. Since nature is clearly a natural process – in return you will have a more sustainable business if you follow the patterns of nature. Furthermore Michael Pawlyn touches on this topic in his TED talk. Overall Pawlyn agrees that biomimicry is the most natural form of design.

Lastly, the life principles are day to day guidelines that we should be following as humans in order to live a more sustainable life. The life principles highlight the important “patterns found among species surviving and thriving on Earth” (Biomimicry Group 2011).
