Tim Brown’s Reading & Design Activism
What I got from Tim Brown’s reading was a lot about “extreme users”. Extreme users is a person who may use all parts or aspects of a product. It is important to not only utilize products but to also engage with the products. Tim Brown spoke about a lot of aspects that goes into being an extreme user. My thoughts on design activism, is that it is an amazing cause. Designs can create opportunity and it can make people’s life simpler and easier. Designer is solely changing something for the better. Design activism is making things more accessible and creating a wider and broaden spectrum.
Human & Natural Capital
I was searching for hours in order to find a store environment that reflected human and natural capital. I googled the terms in order to better understand what I needed to search for. Human capital “consists of people’s health, knowledge, skills and motivation. All these things are needed for productive work”(Forum,2016). Natural capital “ is any stock or flow of energy and material that produces goods and services. It includes”(Forum,2016). What stood out to me will have to be when one of my peers spoke about will have to be when one of the learning communities spoke about the sky factory. I thought that it was a pretty cool design that incorporated high quality images into places. I think that that idea could be implemented into the merchandising world.
Nearly, “1/2 of the world’s population — more than 3 billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day.”(Global Poverty,2016). More than “1.3 billion live in extreme poverty — less than $1.25 a day and 1 billion children worldwide are living in poverty.”(Global Poverty,2016). There are so many people in undeveloped countries that are not making enough money to survive on. It is so sad to think that so many countries do not have a minimum wage and are not helping their citizens. This cause needs immediate attention. If I had a say in the standards of the wages or working conditions throughout the world I will promote increasing wages for families. So many young kids have to drop out of school in an effort to work for $2.50 a day in order to support their family.
My habit result were 5.1 tonnes while my footprint included 3.06 tonnes of CO2. My hands and bum was the biggest and abnormal parts from my scores. The bum was 1.31 tonnes while my head was 1.13 tonnes. For my habits I was shocked to see that my feet were not bigger. I tend to drive a lot throughout the weekends. I also noticed that I take a lot of baths as opposed to showers. I have always just like baths over showers and I do not think that aspect of my life can be change. But I can change my recycling habits and also walk more instead of always driving somewhere.
Reflection on Pomping
Pomping to me sounds extremely usefulness and it serves no purpose. I see no purpose in stuffing wire with new store bought tissue. I feel that it is very unsustainable and it is a huge waste of time and money. Maybe if I was in a sorority or fraternity I might have a different outlook to pomping because I probably would understood what the history for it was and everything. I think that instead of going out and purchasing new tissue to stuff inside of the wire they should probably use old garments and save them up just to use. What would you use for pomping besides tissue and clothing?
