Sustainability in my own words means to be able to live in a way that is heathy for the earth and for the resources that we use every day around us. To do this you must be aware of the consequences that your actions may have on the earth. We also have to be able to control our consumption of the natural resources that we have in ways that will keep these resources plentiful.
The 11th Hour:
After watching the 11th hour I realized how harmful we can be to the earth. Most times we don’t even realize that we are being harmful to the resources that we use. Sometimes we don’t even realize that we are being harmful in the first place. People need to be aware of the consequences that the earth and nature face from the things that we do. If we find ways to make our lives more sustainable then we will be helping ourselves and the earth that we live on. I think that if more people were aware of this problem more people would take action and we could become more sustainable. I wasn’t aware of the extent of how much that we harm the earth with what we do until watching this movie.
Fashion and Sustainability:
When reading about fashion and sustainability the main problems that come up are the waste that is involved in the making of clothes and the pollution that is put off from the factories that make these clothes. When people are done with their clothes most don’t know what to do with them so they commonly dispose of them by throwing them right in the trash which is not the best way to get rid of them. Clothing materials need to be made more sustainable by making them biodegradable or making them out of recyclable materials. Then when people got rid of them they could be used to make new clothes or would be able to help the earth in not ending up in adding to all of the trash that we already have.
I have worked in groups in many of my classes at OSU and during my second week of this year I met with my group for this class. I was new to this group because I enrolled in this class later than other people did but after meeting with them I felt that we all got along together and would be able to keep in contact with each other easily. and be able to get all our work done in a fair and equal way.
I would think that my carbon footprint isn’t the highest but it also isn’t the lowest that it could be, it’s probably somewhere in the middle. I came to this estimate because normally when I am going somewhere in Stillwater I am either carpooling somewhere with someone or I am walking to class from home or just walking from class to class. This would be better than me driving my car everywhere I go.
After the first few weeks of class I understood what we would be taking about in class and I am looking forward to learning more about this topic in class and learning how I can become more sustainable in my life.
