Going into this class, I had no idea what it would be like. I enjoyed the class a lot more than I thought I would because I learned about sustainability in every aspect. I would define sustainability as anything that you can do to reduce the amount of waste and foot print that you leave behind. Sustainable design to me means creating designs using sustainable materials and producing minimal waste. At the beginning of the course, I had never thought about how many ways you can design items while being sustainable. It was so cool learning about all of the sustainable designs that have been created while using various random materials.
Going into this course, I considered myself to be pretty sustainable. Whenever I thought about sustainability I always just thought about recycling. After learning about all of the waste that we produce, I realized that there are a lot more ways that I could be more sustainable. I realized that almost everything that we do in our daily lives produces waste. I also realized that most of us are uneducated on ways that we can be more sustainable. One thing that I will take away from this class is how unsustainable our industry is. I had never thought about how much waste the industry creates. This is very unsustainable and more sustainable practices will need to be used in the near future. It is very hard to be sustainable with the quickly changing fashion industry but there are small things that could be done to prevent the large amount of waste.
I would like to learn about ways to reduce the waste in our industry and how to be more sustainable in my daily life. I feel like people my age aren’t as sustainable because it is convenient to them. A lot of people do things out of convenience so I would like to learn about easy ways to be sustainable so that I could share that with people my age. I really enjoyed this class and will continue to keep up with new sustainable designs that are being created in our industry.
