At the beginning of last week I honestly didn’t know what to expect from this class, and once I learned about the actual meaning I figured that a wicked problem was just an environmental problem. But after the two meetings last week I began to truly understand what a wicked problem is, it’s a problem that is greatly affecting our environment and is everchanging.
I had also not watched The 11th Hour prior to class. And after the first part I was greeted with the harsh reality that humans are dumb and ruin everything. Just kidding… kind of. But I did conclude that humans treat this world like we own it when we actually don’t. And after reading the Easter Island article it was interesting to see how humans have treated the earth the same even all the way back then. They were reckless with their resources and to concerned with competition to realize they were in trouble. And that’s very similar to what’s going on in our world right now. With Easter Island one of their main problems was the fact that they were very far from outside help, they only resources there on the island. However our situation is a bit different, we have many issues such as climate change, deforestation, population control, etc. We as humans need to realize we are only renting the earth we don’t own it.
