I think mindfulness is so important because it makes you self aware. Being self aware is important in any stage of life. Not only does it make you self aware, but it makes you aware of all of your surroundings. I feel like being mindful is a way to be happier and stress-free. If you always know what is going on around you, you will be able to solve problems much easier. Marc Cohen is doctor, so listening to his TED talk was very interesting to me because he knows what he’s talking about. He pulls together, mindfulness, wellness and sustainability to show that they are all linked to one another. I really liked when he talked about how humans need to balance egocentric selfish actions with egoless selfless action.
For the mindfulness and sustainability reading, I enjoyed reading about how they are tied together. Its easy to be mindful after living a sustainable lifestyle. Once you incorporate sustainability into your life, you automatically become more mindful of how the Earth is doing. They just connect to each other and go hand in hand. The YES- NO reading was hard for me to comprehend. Mostly what I got out of it was that globalization has good and bad sides to it. It can raise a poor nations economy and help them get back on their feet.
My wicked problem that I will be researching is ocean pollution. It is such a big deal in todays society because so many of our animals and fish in the ocean are dying and becoming endangered. The ocean makes up 71% of the Earths surface. Yet, humans are not making a valid effort to stop polluting our waters. I have been learning that humans know how much waste we out in the oceans, yet few of us actually do anything about it. Also, big companies are huge contributors to the waste in our oceans.
The Wildest Thing activity was fun for my group and I to do. We got to take other peoples ideas and think outside of the box on ways to fix it. Most worksheets we got had similar problems. But, the best thing about it was being able to see everyone’s unique solutions to the wicked problems.
