Mindfulness to me means, when you can increase awareness and enable yourself to focus and continually refocus on your needs and well-being. When I think of the word mindfulness, it makes me think of meditation. I feel like everyone needs to have a time during their day to sit down and breathe, and focus on something other than stress. When we watched the TED talk in class, Marc Cohen talked about wellness, mindfulness, and sustainability. He brought up that all is not well with the world, and I agree with his statement completely. There are so many problems that are going on in the world right now, and not enough people are trying to find a resolution. Even if that problem isn’t concerning you, I think people should still try to help. I also believe that everyone should be positive through every negative situation. After reading the mindfulness and sustainability reading, I learned that if you want to be more of a mindful person, then you need to have a more sustainable life. I never really thought of it like that, but now that I do, I want to change my life-style to an eco-friendlier atmosphere. In the YES-NO reading I read the no part, and it was harder for me to comprehend what was going on. Once we started discussing it in class, I had a better understanding of the relationship between globalization and sustainability. When we got into our groups and discussed the wildest thing activity, I had a lot of fun. I got to learn about a lot more wicked problems from other individuals in the class and what they thought about it from their perspective.
After this week’s class, I decided to pick ocean pollution for my self narrative. I feel like that is a huge problem going on in the world right now, and I am interested on finding out more information about it. I learned a lot about my wicked problem after finishing activity 2, like all the marine animals are going extinct, such as the; Blue Whale, Hawksbill Turtle, and the Hammerhead Shark. I find that so heart-breaking, because all the pollution going into the ocean is killing them all. Paradigm relates to all of this, because this is the lens through which we perceive the world. This problem could be fixed, if everyone would work together and stop using so much plastic and just throwing it wherever they please. It makes me so mad, because people can be so selfish toward the ocean and not even care about all the bad things that are actually polluting it.
