I read a quote the other day about how if you hold onto anger it is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. I really thought more into this about how I tend to focus on the negative which takes my focus elsewhere. When I face the negative ideas I take myself out of the now and began to stress out about things that are out of my control. I had never meditated before until we did in class. I thought it was interesting that it can be used in so many different ways to help people. I feel like meditating is a way to bring yourself to a more calm state and relax which I think is extremely helpful for college students who have a lot going on. I personally thought that meditation was not serious or very popular but I was mistaken and now I know how much it can help you.
During the Ted Talk Cohen talked about meditation being used in medicine and how it is “curing” happiness and I thought that was interesting because happiness seems like something that a lot of people have issues with but something as simple as meditation can completely change lives. The meditation exercise was slightly awkward at first because I didn’t really know what to do and I was distracted.
I thought the wildest thing activity was helpful to help us think about the problems and how we would solve them. For activity two I think I am going to talk about food waste and how common it is among college students.
